Hi, having some issues with windows live messenger. It keeps saying i have 18 pending requests, but unsure how to access them. i got a fix file off of someone, but it hasn't appeared to work. also, it keeps saying that contacts are offline, when i know they're on, as i saw them sign in. any help with this one would be very much appreciated.

hmmm.

as for the pending requests, i have 2 (but also can't access them)

as for the sign in, some people have there messenger sign in when there computer starts.

maybe they sign out, just because there not meant to be talking, but it's just the way the computer is set

Well mine keeps changing my status to Busy when I sign in. It signs me in automatically on my PC at the moment, and I've unchecked the box that tells other users I'm busy if I run a full-screen program or I'm on the internet and I've unckecked the "desktop contacts" feature to see if that solves the problem, so I hope one of those works when I next sign in, but if anyone has any other suggestions, either post on this board, PQN me or send me a private message through my profile on The Zone.

Cheers.

Jen.

Ok, I aproach this from a different screen reader so may get different results, but the pending requests, for some reason irritates me. I have 7, and when you click on it, it takes you to a webpage to deal with them. I go through and check or uncheck apropriate boxes, and hit the button to complete, and it always comes back with the service unavailable at this time. Now, i know some of these requests are already dealt with, because they are people added to my contacts, so it seems to be some kind of bug.

For painding request:
while u r on contact list, do root jaws to PC and arrow keys. then click left mouse.
webpage will appear.
then! go to last heading, u will c the name of the person, who send u request. under that heading, has a table, few radio button r there. JAWS does not read them. first one always checked. So! press b for the button under the table, and click there. then close button will appear, also click there, and, you done!
But, i never c any change after completion this process.

Concerning offline:
They r offline status, not offline. u know? what i mean?
if they change their status from file menu, they will be online status, and, u will be able to c them!

ok, i'll try and fix the pending request thing. where do you have to arrow too when you route jaws to pc? thanks.

pending request doesn't help. *shrugs. and as for the signs in busy jen, maybe it's your sign in status? I've set mine to offline and forgotten to change it?

Post 8 by skittles_freak (the freak of skittles) on Thursday, 01-Mar-2007 22:36:10

no, the busy thing, well you have to check a box in the main window that says don't set my status to busy or something with full screens...

Okay people I am simply offering to help anyone that has trouble with this program. It is difficult to explain all in a post and I see all have different problems with it. Some seem the same, but because of how you've tried to deal with the fix you have caused another problem. This program is accessible completely, but depending on which screen reader your using and in the case of Jaws version make a differents of how you fixes should be handled. So if you like send me a private note and will talk about your problems according to you. These pending request do work and they do go away, it's just difficult. You can turn them off period if you don't wish people to get what's called updates from your profile. The online, or offline statis is set several ways. Unchecking that box that says if your running a full screen doesn't apply to you unless you run video, so check it back. Well you have the offer.

Later.

Ya I could never get rid of those pending requests either, and what's the subscribe to updates checkbox for when you add a contact? never could figure that out

Post 11 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 02-Mar-2007 6:11:00

I think it's if they change their address or something. also, me and a friend have been trying to add each other for ages, after we blocked and deleted each other. i unblocked him last night, he can see my online status but i can't, see him. If anyone knows how to solve this, i'd be very grateful to them.

Hi kay. Deleting this contact from your instant messaging contact
list does not block them from sending you messages or
seeing your online status. Now let's fix this problem!mmm!
1. Move to contact and press the Applications key (third key to the right of the spacebar), in the context menu choose "delete contact".
2. Press TAB to move to the list of checkboxes.
3. If any of the following are unchecked, check them:
Also block this contact
Also remove from my Hotmail contacts
Then press tab and "delete contact". Cool, huh?

Post 15 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Saturday, 03-Mar-2007 14:51:36

You don't even have to go in to the Context menu. Just hit the delete key next to the JAWS keypad, then tab round all the options suck as blocking and removing your contact from Hotmail contacts, then hit OK. I'm having the same problem with Kay (Narcissa Malfoy) as well. I was trying unsuccessfully to add her to my contacts earlier and I couldn't see her MSN screen name or her Online status, so I think possibly the problem's occurring at your end Kay.

Post 16 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 03-Mar-2007 19:53:24

True True. There are lots of aspects to windows live, so if your friend can't see you they may have not actually unblocked you, or you may not be online, so you have to check all these things. Windows live is really a simple program and as I've said completely accessible. Now about the check box to subscribe to your contacts updates. If your contacts do a profile and make a changed, or a windows live spaces then all changes will change in your address book, so you don't have to do it. Neat.
About These F 11 and F12 keys messenger has nothing to do with them, so it could be your keyboards giving up the ghost. I'd use another keyboard to check this. this.

Post 17 by buk buk buk (move over school!) on Saturday, 03-Mar-2007 20:48:37

Yes yes jen that's right you're wonderful!, but ya know more safety, lol. And if one or more of your contacts are using an older version of either MSN or Yahoo!, the IM clients will simply appear offline to you.

Post 18 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2007 12:15:02

I've done everything to get jen backl, after her lovely messenger decided to block me, still no good. i've even gone onto old windows messenger, but still nothing.

Post 19 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2007 12:34:11

Well I uninstalled it last night Kay and didn't reinstall it till a few minutes ago now, so nexty time you're online, have another try or even upgrade to Windowslive Messenger 8.1. It only upgraded recently. That's probably what's gone wrong here.

Post 20 by buk buk buk (move over school!) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2007 20:49:31

Kay? Jen? how are you?do you like chicken? hehegh. Well i prefer you use the same version of Windows Live Messenger which is version 8 because it works probably with jaws.

Post 21 by forereel (Just posting.) on Sunday, 04-Mar-2007 22:54:42

8.1 works fine with Jaws 7 and up. nfact all the latest versions of windows live. If you have at least messenger 7 it will work with all others. Now Yahoo users must have the version 8 which has the MSN compatibility on it so you can see yor Yahoo people as well. You also have to have 8 version of MSN to see the Yahoo people. If you and your friend don't get it fixed then add me and I'll help you both from there, then you can delete me. *smile*

Post 22 by buk buk buk (move over school!) on Monday, 05-Mar-2007 19:26:12

Yep! that's right!

Post 23 by cuddle_kitten84 (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 09-Mar-2007 6:02:08

where can i get the latest version from? i went to some website, but i had to text this thing using my mobile phone, so think i got the wrong one. any site address would be helpful.

Post 24 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 10-Mar-2007 14:18:53

Okay here's how you can get the latest MSN messenger, or the version you whish to have.
1. To get the latest go to www.msn.com I use jaws command insert plus f7 to bring up the links list, but you can find the link buy looking. The 20th link on the page has a picture of 2 people and is the messenger link. Click. On the next page you'll find the link that says download. Click it and the download will start. You can then save the file for later use or select run to install it now.
2. Finding the version you want. Go to www.microsoft.com. Go to the search box and type in the version your wanting, in the case I typed in Download for MSN messenger 8.1. The next page will give you information on how to download the version you wat.

Post 26 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 10-Mar-2007 20:52:05

Okay how to clear these pending requests.
We use different screen readers, so I’ll explain it by points. You’ll know how to do these with your reader.
1. In your messenger go to tools.
2. . Go to options.
3. . Go to personal. Under personal you’ll find edit profile, click it.
4. . Your now on the windows live spaces page. On that page you may see pending request, but skip it and find account.
5. . Click it and you’ll see pending request.
6. Now here’s the problem. There are three labels, except, decline, or decide later and only 2 check boxes. The decide later box is checked by default, so your request never clear. Check the first box which is decline. You must do this for each request pending. If you wish to accept the person you must fill in the information box, but I’d not do this yet, you can fix it later.
7. Now after you’ve check all the first boxes or the decline box go to the bottom and click the done button. Your pending request clear.
8. Now if you wish to have selective contacts get your updated information automatically go back to your profile and fill it in. As you do this you’ll have the option of what information gets disclosed to whom. Live messenger clients allow you to divide your contacts into groups, such as friends, family, and business and your profile has boxes for information for these different groups.
9. When adding a contact to messenger you can uncheck the box that says subscribe to their updates then you’ll not get a request, nor will they. There are other methods, but this is a sure way to get the job done. I tested it to make sure it works. If need more I’ll walk you through it. Let me know.

hi thanks for this. i think i've solved my problem now, will have to see if the other person can see me or not. but yeah, i've got the latest version.

Post 28 by forereel (Just posting.) on Sunday, 11-Mar-2007 23:06:14

Remember to make sure your online. Turn on your jaws cursor and go to the top of the page and read down and you'll see your statis on the main page. You can use control C, but it doesn't always work.

thanks. we can see each otr now. problem solved thank goodness.

Post 30 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 26-Mar-2007 3:11:06

I have an update on the pending request for messenger. It it going through a change in how it's done, so when MSN gets finished fixing what's not broken I'll post the changes. Last time I tried which was today I found the service changed and not in order, so stay tuned.

Post 31 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 29-Mar-2007 14:11:26

Okay it's fixed and can be done the same way. If your able to click on the pending request icon that's the easy way, but the rest of us have to go the long way home and that some times changes.
Here's my last statement unless asked on this subject. When adding a blind friend to your messenger do them the favor or not checking the box that says receive updates then they'll not have to figure out how to delet your request.

I have a question a friend of mine asked me, but I didn't know the answer, so I figured I'd post it here and see if anyone else knows.

She uses Windows Live, and she was wondering if the games are accessible for those who are blind/visually impaired. Anyone know?

Post 33 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Thursday, 19-Apr-2007 13:27:43

Hmmm! Haven't tried the games myself, but I'm sure they wouldn't be very accessible for visually impaired Windows live users. Your friend could check some of them out and see whether she could play them or not. Going off topic for a moment, I did just that with some of myHarry Potter VHS disks, and I was able to catch the snitch and listen as it told you about the different Quidditch balls, I was able to avoid Filch and snape and visit the Chamber Of Secrets and I was also able to answer the questions. Going back to WindowsLive though, just give the games a go. Your friend can but try after all.
